Introducing Weather Tech Improved car mats

Looking for new car mats that do more than just brush off sand? Need mats for snow, muds or more? Weather tech has an improved solution for you. They offer mats options starting from the AVM HD Semi-universal Trim-to-fit mats to the higher All-Weather Floor mats. They are modelled for differing cars so finding the one that suits your vehicle wouldn’t be difficult. There is also the laser measured Floor Liner model that gives perfect floor coverage.

The most intriguing thing about the Weather tech mats is the type and quality of materials they use. The use of safe to breathe, made in USA products is the biggest boost.

Base Model Mats

The base model mats are the All Vehicle Mats, heavy duty (AVM HD) Trim-to-fit mats are made from Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE); an odorless and non-toxic material. They do not contain lead or injurious cadmium, so it’s safe to breathe easy while they are being used in your cars.

There are nibs on the underside of the mats that ensure they do not come off when movements are made in the car, and the surfaces do not stick to ensure ease when clearing dirt off your feet or shoes.

The mats have tall ridges on three sides of the mat, with grooved center so that any dirt, snow or mud that falls on the mat will move smoothly to the edges.

The basic sizes of the mats are:

Front Mats:

  • 7/8 inch thick
  • 19 inches width by 27 inches length
  • Adjustable to 16 by 24 inches

2-piece Rear Mats:

  • 7/8 inch thick
  • 18.5 inches width by 17 inches length
  • Adjustable to 16.5 by 15 inches

There are varying prices of the mats based on the car on use. Order prices change especially as your shipping cost will not be calculated until they know the shipping destination. The damage insurance for each shipment is $5.95. Color variations are also available.

Improved Quality Mats

There are All-weather floor mats that offer improvements on the AVM HD (TPE) though they are made of similar material. The difference is that they replace the nubs on the bottom with anti-skid ridges and can fit into your car without trimming.

The OEM approves the material used and they follow set ISO 9001 standards, FMVSS302 (federal motor vehicle safety standards) whose focus is flammability. The pro of this is that there is lifetime warranty meaning you are covered for fails.

There is improved emphasis on sturdiness and reach with high ridges around the outside edges, high ridges separated in the inside to protect shoes and feet from dirt and plenty of room for dirt to stay without irritating the feet.

The prices for each differs expectedly based on the model of car being used. The average price for Toyota Corolla, for example, is $99.95 before variable shipping costs are considered. Colors also differ.

The Floor Liner

The weather tech mats are measured from a similar vehicle and are made to fit the intending car perfectly. The edges are raised to cover any necessary foot space. For the back seat of the car, you can either use just one continuous mat which covers transmission hump, or you can use two different pieces.

An alternative to the thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) for the front mats is using High-density Tri-Extruded (HDTE). It offers a stronger and firmer feel. For the rear mats, custom blended Thermopolyolefin (TPO) can be used as it is wear resistant and remains elastic even in severe conditions.

As they are non-sticky, it is easy to dispose the dirt on them. A problem could arise though, in lifting them due to the anchor hooks with which they are held. These though do not fit over vinyl floors but over original factory carpets.

For this, the price for the Toyota Corolla is $179.90 with same shipping insurance of $5.95 and variable shipping cost.

Customer Review

Users of the Weather tech mats have given over 5,000 reviews on various review sites. Using the general 5-star rating system, Weather Tech receives an average of 4.5-star rating. On rating for floor mats specific, they received 5 stars from 45% of reviewers, 4 stars from 37%, and 18% for 3 stars and below.

The most common reason given for negative reviews was a poor fit. Other reasons included that the mats weren’t lying flat or that they had curled edges. While most positive reviewers were impressed with the great fit of the front mats.

For FloorLiner mats with a digital fit, the reviews were more impressive. 86% gave 5 stars while receiving 4 stars from 12%, 3 stars from just 2% and no 1 or 2-star reviews.

The complaints were mainly that one side of the mats didn’t fit properly or that due to poor arrangement and folding when shipping, some had wear damage. There was one unique complaint though, of a user whose order was incomplete.

There were also complaints of those whose return order for poor or damaged mats weren’t honored while some were surprised by the 15% replacement fee.

Despite not getting perfect reviews (who really can get that anyway), the average of 9 satisfied customers out of 10 shows they are a go to option for better and highly improved car mats.
