The Best Crossover Cars In Canada For 2020

There are numerous choices of Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUVs) available on the market. A Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV)  combines the sporting qualities of an SUV with the functionality of a hatchback making it an excellent choice with many advantages. The following CUVs made our list of the best crossover vehicles on the Canadian market for 2020.

2020 Mazda CX-5

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is a unique CUV vehicle. Several modifications by Mazda engineers have made sure that the CX-5 is outstanding both in performance and appearance.

Its modified design makes it more edgy and sporty. It complements this beauty with an awesome performance, giving its driver an incredible driving experience. Its base model, the CX-5 GX has a fuel efficiency of 6.8 L/100 km on the highway which isn’t too bad.

The Mazda CX-5 has a more practical and spacious interior compared to other CUVs in its class. As an add on, music lovers can get a 7-inch touchscreen and HD Radio integrated into it. This implies that you’ll always get reception wherever you go. Its infotainment system comes with a voice command system and an emergency system that automatically kicks in when you need it.

The CX-5 comes with standard safety features like rear collision sensors, seat-mounted airbags, blind-spot sensors and electronic stability control. Mazda ensures a secure driving experience.

The CX-5 GX offers both the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 L engine which is paired with an automatic transmission, and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0  L engine which is equipped with manual. The AWD or front-wheel drive is available with the automatic while the manual offers only the front-wheel drive. The automatic AWD engine yields 184 horsepower and 185 lb. ft.  of torque. With the trailer hitch option, you can tow up to 2,000 pounds. The price of the base model starts at $30,225 CAD.

The CX5 has, however, been criticized for its subpar sound quality. The automatic engine is not powerful enough, and that is bad because there are other options available for the car. This results in an overall slow drive on freeways.

2020 Ford Escape

The 2020 Ford Escape is set to meet all the expectations of the people who have been following the Escape series.  It balances a mix of agility, performance, technology, fuel economy, and sportiness better than its predecessors.

In terms of design, its modern, stylish and sporty appearance makes it very appealing to the eye. The 2020 Ford Escape’s base engine gets about 8.0 L/100km on the freeway. It offers three different engine options. There is the 2.0 L Ecoboost and the 1.5 L Ecoboost which both come with a start/stop technology. The third engine option is the 2.5 L iVCT. The 2.0 L four-cylinder turbocharged engine yields 245 horsepower and is very efficient.

The Ford Escape’s sportiness doesn’t just end with its appearance. Its sportiness is continued  behind the wheel. It has a responsive steering that is similar to that of the hatchback making the Escape a unique CUV. It also comes standard with an AWD system.

The 2020 Ford Escape is a touring car with a starting price of $21,599 CAD. The spacious interior is fitted with an electronic parking brake and reclining back seats. The dashboard is equipped with the Sync infotainment system, and the tailgate is foot activated, making it easier to open if you can’t use your hands at the moment.

In terms of safety, the Ford Escape is equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert sensors and blind-spot sensors.

Unfortunately, the 2020 Ford Escape doesn’t come with a manual transmission. So, manual lovers will have to look for an alternative.

2020 Honda CR-V

The 2020 Honda CR-V, like its competitors, has been redesigned for better performance and appearance. The LX-2WD has a starting price of $26,690 CAD which is a real bargain compared to its rivals. With an incredibly designed exterior, a spacious interior, ample cargo space, and an excellent fuel economy, the Honda CR-V is an outstanding CUV.

It is equipped with a responsive infotainment system that features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a voice-powered Bluetooth system and two USB ports. There is also a high-tech navigation system that comes with a 7-inch display.

The 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine yields 190 horsepower and 179 lb. ft. of torque. Its fuel consumption is estimated at 7.0L/100km on the highway.

The CR-V offers an extensive list of safety features like the lane change warning system, a rear view camera, forward collision Alert sensors and a blind spot alert sensors. It also features rear traffic alert sensors, lane change sensors, collision mitigation and traction control. This vehicle is also equipped with an automatic emergency braking system that maintains a particular distance between your vehicle and the car before you to avoid a collision.

2020 Hyundai Tucson

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson comes at quite an affordable price despite its beautifully crafted exterior, an incredible interior and a turbocharged engine. It combines sportiness and comfort all in one.

The SE version comes standard with a 2.0 L four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger. There is also the option of a smaller engine that yields 175 horsepower. Running on its turbocharged engine in the highway, the Tucson gets a fuel consumption estimate of 7.8 L/100km. The six-speed transmission enhances its acceleration thereby reaching a speed of 60mph from zero in 7.9 seconds.

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson doesn’t disappoint when it comes to safety. It is equipped with front and side crash protection among numerous other safety features. Its spacious interior has more features than that of its competitors in this class. It features heated mirrors, a fantastic 5” touchscreen that has a navigation system, Bluetooth and phone connectivity.

However, the Tucson still strives with the issue of sub-standard materials. It is affordable at a price of $24,999 CAD which probably makes up for its quality problem. It has also been criticized for having a highly under powered engine that isn’t suitable for the CUV market.

Deciding on which CUV could be a challenge that needs careful considerations. The aforementioned CUV options should help you come to an easy decision.
