Inside the New Chevy Trax

For the 2015 model year, Chevrolet Trax is first introduced in the relatively new subcompact SUV class. Although unchanged for 2015, this mid-road model has earned points for its high level of fuel efficiency, high safety ratings, easy handling and a well cushioned and comfortable ride. In fact, the book by Kelley Blue has named the 2016 Trax to be among the most fuel-efficient SUVs, and one of the ten most technologically advanced cars under $ 25,000, The US News and World Report has named it one of the best Sub-compact SUVs for families.

The Basics

The Trax 2016 is available for a starting price of $20,300 MSRP and has seats for up to five passengers. It is equipped with a four-cylinder engine, 138 hp turbo coupled with an automatic transmission with six gears, the only option for the car engine. Although this is not the most powerful, it is nice for riding around the city, which is one of the best reasons to buy the stylish and extremely convenient Trax.

It has enough space for both head and legs and also has a 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Also, the passenger seat can be folded for those who travel long distances. An All wheel drive is also available at all trim levels.

The Features

The base model Chevy Trax has been equipped with the latest technology, such as Bluetooth, a USB port, a six speaker audio system, a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system, a hotspot Wi-Fi and a rear-view camera. These features are unique to the base models of the cars in this class.  For drivers who would want to upgrade can include options like satellite radio, Bose audio system with seven speakers, power sunroof, remote start as well as rear parking sensors .

The Trax 2016 is highly safe. It has a total five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has it as one of the top safety cars.

The Competition

Although the Trax 2016 is a reasonable choice in the small crossover class, it ranks below its most popular competitors like the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Jeep Renegade. However, this is a good choice for drivers who are more interested in the latest technology and safety features and are less concerned about the quality of internal construction and powerful engine performance.

Fuel Consumption

The Trax2016  with 26/34 miles of city/highway per gallon, is one of the most fuel efficient options from the crossover class, it is ideal for an eco-conscious buyer on a budget. For those who prefer value over speed, they will be satisfied with the balance reached by the sub-compact SUV.

The Pros and Cons

The Trax 2016 is an excellent choice for its open and airy interior which offers optimal visibility for both the driver and passengers, as well as balanced handling and driving comfort.  The technological features are straightforward to use; this makes it ideal for buyers who are not used to modern technology, if you prefer a luxurious interior then this isn’t  the best option because it loses points for its clean cabin design and hard plastic. However, experts agree that Trax 2016 is indeed a good value for your money.
